If you have received scholarships FROM OUTSIDE SOURCES, You must see Mrs. Henderson by Friday, May 16th so that these will be announced at senior awards.

To the student body.                                                                                                      As you know, we have a day of Talent And Tennis, better known as TNT, coming up on May 13.  The Tennis part of the day is a faculty/student tennis tournament in which a student will partner up with a teacher to play doubles.  It is mixed doubles, which means you choose a teacher of the opposite gender.  Coach Paine has a few spots left in the tournament to fill so choose a teacher for a partner, write it down and give it to Coach Paine.  Only 24 entries can be in the tournament and it is filling up fast.  You do not have to be a tennis player on the tennis team in order to play in the tournament.  If you want to participate in the talent show stop by Mrs. Rodriguez's room to pick up an application.

Freshmen, If you are planning on taking AP World History next year and are NOT currently enrolled in Pre A.P. World Geography, you need to see Mr. White in room C55 if you have not received your summer reading assignment.  You will not be allowed to take AP World History if you do not turn in the summer reading assignment on the first day of school next year.  See Mr. White if you have any questions.

All baseball players who participated in the 2008 season will need to meet with Coach Eurich this Thursday, May 8th at 3:35.  This meeting is mandatory and will take place in the film room at the fieldhouse.

MANDATORY parent meeting for all FFA members attending the State FFA Convention this summer.  You MUST have a parent/guardian present at the pre-trip meeting Thursday, May 22, 6:30 p.m.  KHS Ag Shop If you have questions, please see Mrs. Murphy.

KHS Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be taking orders for the City of Champions T-Shirt during all lunches through Friday.  Shirts are $10.00 each and are available in Adult sizes S-4XL.  If paying by check please make sure your check is payable to Kaufman FCA.  ALL orders must be prepaid and no orders will be taken after Friday.

If you are a NHS student, or a high school student needing community service hours, the Kaufman Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Spring Clean of Kaufman on Saturday, May 17th from 8 am to 12 pm.  If you are a senior needing hours, Ms. Leighton will extend the deadline to include this project so that all NHS students have the opportunity to earn hours.  Please see the flyer posted outside of Ms. Fay' or Ms. Leighton's rooms for more information.

If you are a NHS senior, you must turn in all community service hour forms no later than May 15, 2008 by 4 pm to Ms. Leighton in D33.  If you do not have the required community service hours by that date, you will need to see Ms. Leighton regarding graduation.

The Kaufman Lion Baseball Team will play Van in a best of three series beginning Friday, May 2nd at 7pm at Rockwall Heath. Game two will be Saturday at Rockwall Heath at 2:30 with game three following 30 minutes later, if needed. Thank you for the continued support.

If you are a senior and have been active in the Interact Club, please see Mrs. Carter about a scholarship opportunity. The deadline for this scholarship application is Monday, April 28th.

The girl's golf team (Morgan Copeland, Kalee Nixon, Chantry McMahan, Meredith Cox, and Melissa Sleeper) went to Texoma and represented Kaufman High School with pride. The girls shot some of their best scores of the year and placed 8th out of 15 teams. The girls gained great experience and look forward to doing even better next year. Chantry fired a 78 the 1st day and a 1 over par 73 the second day. She placed 2nd in the region and was awarded the silver medal. She now will represent KHS at the State tournament in 2 weeks. We wish her luck!

Last night at the District IV FFA Convention in Mabank, the Kaufman FFA talent team - consisting of Gil Altom and Philip Urso - was named District IV Talent Champions! Way to go guys! - These guys will be performing at the District IV Banquet and Kaufman FFA Banquet as well as competing on the Area level in Frisco on May 17. Good Luck!

Are you interested in joining the KHS color guard for the 2008-2009 marching season? Sign up on the door at the High school dance studio or on the Junior High band hall door. Clinic begins this Thursday from 4 - 5:30, we will meet in the high school dance studio. We can't wait to see you there!

Attention Seniors:
We will be having a group cap and gown picture on May 2nd. make sure you bring your pressed cap and gown ready for this. If you have not purchased a cap and gown, do so ASAP by going to their website at www.balfour4u.com. Please be aware that there is now a $10 late fee.

Attention all students- the final deadline for submissions to the literary magazine, the PAW, will be Friday, April 18th. Remember you can submit essays, short stories, poetry, prose, or artwork. Please see Mrs. Fielding in C32 for submission information.

Any Junior student interested in taking the Pharmacy Tech or EMT class next year needs to pick up an application in the counselor's office. The application is due to the counseling office no later than Friday, April 18th.

Seniors, you you have a parent who is currently an employee of the Kaufman Independent School District you are eligible to receive the KISD employee scholarship that is awarded to any son or daughter of a current KISD employee. To receive this scholarship you must see Mr. White in room C55 between classes to sign in that your parent is currently employed with the Kaufman School District. The deadline to sign in with Mr. White to receive this scholarship is Monday, April 21st.

On Saturday, May 17th the KHS Jazz Ensemble will be performing at a Frisco Roughriders Baseball Game. We will be playing music during the pre-game warm-up, as well as the National Anthem and much of the in-game music. If you are unsure of who the Roughriders are, they are the AA Minor League Affiliate for the Texas Rangers. This is very exciting for us and we would love to see you out at the ball park. We will be playing on the concourse around section 119 and 120 on the 1st base side. I don't know if any tickets are still available in that area but we will be miced and projected around the stadium. I believe the game starts at 7:00pm. If you are unsure of who the Roughriders are, they are the AA Minor League Affiliate for the Texas Rangers. This is very exciting for us and we would love to see you out at the ball park. We will be playing on the concourse around section 119 and 120 on the 1st base side. I don't know if any tickets are still available in that area but we will be miced and projected around the stadium. I believe the game starts at 7:00pm. Kaufman FFA competed in the Bi-Area Career Development Events yesterday in Commerce. Here are the results:
     Nursery/Landscape Team (Joanna Holland, Marisol Saenz, Megan Wells, and Cassidy Lawrence)- 9th in Area V, 1st in District IV
     Dairy Foods Team (Tryce Easter, Casey Roe, Anthony Bohanon, Ransom Simmons)- 4th in District IV
     Dairy Cattle Evaluation Team (Kynsea White, Phillip Newby, Mason McCord, Hannah Stahlman)- 4th in District IV
     Ag Mechanics Team (Bailey McCormack, Colton Ries, Brandon Fivecoat)- 5th in District IV

The Kaufman FFA had a successful 2008 County Show last week. Kaufman had 23 entries qualify for the auction where students raised approximately $24,000. They received 1st in swine and goat herdsmanship and received the prestigious President's Award. These students worked extremely hard and represented our district well. We are very proud of their accomplishments.

TENNIS
The Varsity Tennis Team won the Wills Point Tournament on Friday. Josh Scales and Lauren Puente were both 1st in singles. Megan England and Kailey Lampkin took 2nd in doubles. 3rd place finishers were Crystal Hernandez in singles, Vibi Patel and Tyson Perry in mixed doubles, and Katie Mitchell and Jessica Scales in doubles. Randy Davis and BJ Vincik won consolation in doubles. Congratulation and Good Luck in the District Tournament tomorrow.

FCCLA
FCCLA competed at the state competition this past week in Galveston.
Barbara Gonzales, Britney Burchfield and Lorena Villalpandro took home 3rd place in chapter showcase. For this competition they had to make a display of all the activities that FCCLA has completed this school year and be interviewed by 3 judges.
Ashli Bennett took home 4th place in Career Investigations. For this contest, she had to make 3 portfolios explaining her career choice and how she can achieve it. She was also interviewed by 3 judges as well.
These students worked very hard and represented Kaufman very well at the state level. If you see them today give them a big pat on the back!

Attention Drama Club:
If you would like a Drama Club t-shirt, you need to give your ten dollars to Julia Warren by Monday.

Baseball games today have been postponed. Make-up day and time are pending.

Tryouts for the 08/09 production class will be today 4/4. This class will be focused on Children's Theater and will producce age appropriate plays for the community and local primary schools. Only 20 positions are open and we will correct your schedule should you make the cut. Be in Mr. T's room by 3:45 on 4/4.

Congratulations to all of our Special Olympic athletes! As many of you know, yesterday we had our Kaufman meet. During which our athletes won many metals. Our athletes who participated were: Ashley Stewart, Myra Abbot, LaChrisha Peters, Brent Allen, Trent Allen, Namom Olivarez, Whitney Mitchell, Tomas Leija, and Taylor Smith. A very special thanks goes to our Student Council and National Honor Society members and to their sponsors for all of their help and hard work.

The JV Tennis team traveled to Wills Point yesterday to participate in the Wills Point tennis tournament. Kaufman won second place being edged out by Wills Point by 4 points. Another great performance by the JV Tennis team who were led by Brittany Stevens-1st place girls doubles, Josh Boccaccio and Alex Tedesco-3rd in mixed doubles, and Michelle McMullin, Gustavo Yepez, and Chris Johnson all won consolation. Please congratulate these players and wish them luck as they prepare to defend their district title next Wednesday here at Kaufman.

The National Junior Honor Society will sponsor a car wash benefiting the American Cancer Society on Saturday, April 5, 2008 from 9-1 at the 7/11 parking lot.

Attention all students - the final deadline for submissions to the literary magazine, the PAW, will be Friday, April 18th, remember you can submit essays, short stories, poetry, or artwork. Please see Mrs. Fielding in C32 for submission information.

Any student interested in taking yearbook next year needs to pick up an application in the counseling center. All applications are due on Friday, April 18 at 3:30 and need to be turned into Mrs. Hetmer in room B19.

The Kaufman Lion Baseball teams had a successful night Tuesday night as our JV beat Crandall's JV 8-3. Miles York picked up another win for the JV Lions whose record now stands at 8-2-2 over-all and 3-0-1 in District. At the Varsity level, the lions beat Crandall 11-5. Zach Mayo gets the win for the Varsity Lions and boosts the Varsity record to 12-6 over-all and 4-1 in District play.

We are now preparing the slide show for the senior brunch. All seniors need to submit 3 photographs to Mrs. Olivarez for the show. The deadline for submitting photos is April 11. See Mrs. Olivarez if you have any questions.

This Saturday is our Annual Spring Jazz Concert. It is at 7:00 in the KHS cafetorium. If will feature the KHS Jazz Ensemble and the Junior High Jazz Band. Our guest artist this year is Freddie Mendoza. He is the Director of the Jazz Program at Texas State University and has been named multiple times as the "Top Call Trombonist" in Austin. The kids have all been working very hard, so please come and support them. Desserts and coffee will be for sale and the concert is FREE!

Any Junior student interested in taking the Pharmacy Tech or EMT class next year needs to pick up an application in the counselor's office. The application is due to the counseling office no later than Friday, April 18th.

The balance is due when you pick up your graduation announcements and cap & gown. No checks or credit cards accepted on date of delivery. You still have time to order your graduation items. The full amount of the order is due at that time. Also, please remember if you haven't picked up or ordered your class ring you can do so as well with a $60 deposit to order or full payment with cash or money order for delivery.

The 4th Annual Spring Jazz Concert will be held this Saturday, April 5th, at 7:00 p.m. at the KHS Cafetorium. It will feature the Junior High and High School Jazz Ensembles. Our guest artist this year is Freddie Mendoza. He is the Director of Jazz Studies at Texas State University and has been named multiple times as the "Top Call Trombonist" in Austin. The kids have all been working very hard, so please come and support them. Desserts and coffee will be for sale and the concert is FREE!!

Tryouts for the 08/09 production class will be held 4/3 and 4/4. This class will be focused on Children's Theater and will produce age appropriate plays for the community and local primary schools. Only 20 positions are open and we will correct your schedule should should you make the cut. Be in Mr. T's room by 3:45 on 4/4.

The Lady Lion golf team placed 2nd in the district tournament and they are headed for regional. Team members are Merdith Cox, Melissa Sleeper, Chantry McMahan, Kalee Nixon, and Morgan Copeland. Chantry was also awarded 1st place in the tournament as low individual score. The Lady Lions have 3 weeks to prepare for reagional and look forward to the challenge. Way to go ladies!

Congratulations to all of our Special Olympic athletes!! As many of you know, yesterday we had our Kaufman meet. During which our athletes won many medals. Our athletes who participated were: Ashley Stewart, Myra Abbot, LaChrisha Peters, Brent Allen, Trent Allen, Namon Olivarez, Whitney Mitchell, Tomas Leija, and Taylor Smith. If you see any of the athletes please congratulate them. The Kaufman Lion Baseball Teams had a successful night last night as our JV beat Crandall's JV 8-3. Auditions for the spring play will be Thursday, April 3rd. "A Midsummer Nights Dream" will perform the second week in May before the band goes off to Chicago. You will need a monolog (speech) and be in Mr. T's room by 3:45 after school.

Tryouts for the 08/09 production class will be held 4/3 and 4/4. This class will be focused on Children's Theater and will produce age appropriate plays for the community and local primary schools. Only 20 positions are open and we will correct your schedule should should you make the cut. Be in Mr. T's room by 3:45 on 4/4.

Attention Jrs. and Srs. - The last two SAT tests are coming up! April 1st is the deadline to register for the May 3 test and May 6th is the deadline to register for the June 7th test. Remember that KISD will reimburse you the cost of one test. Go to www.collegeboard.com to register. If you feel you may qualify for financial assistance for paying your test fees, come by the counselor's office for more info.

The Kaufman Lion Baseball Team won one and lost one last night. On Tuesday, the Lions defeated Kemp 3-1 and lost to Eustace 6-5 on Friday. Zach Mayo got the win vs. Kemp. With that, the Varsity is now standing at 11-6 over-all and 3-1 in District. The JV Baseball Team went 2-0 last week as Miles York got the win against Kemp (11-4) and Justin Simpson the win vs. Eustace (10-4). That moves their record to 7-2-2 over-all and 2-0-1 in District play. We have one game ball to hand out this week. You can see the list of Game MVP's and Teachers here.

On Saturday, The HS Jazz ensemble traveled to Temple compete in the Temple Jazz Festival held on the campus of Temple College. The band performed very well and received a 30 minute clinic from one of the judges. Erik Sletten also receieved one of the few "outstanding soloist" awards that was given out that day. Please congratulate Erik and the rest of the Jazz Band for a great job this weekend and remember, if you want to hear how well they are playing for yourself, come to the spring jazz concert this Saturday at 7pm in the KHS Cafetorium.
